Murder, Overdose & Shootings: The Story Of Popular 90's R&B Group Hi-Five Is Tragic

Have You Ever Wondered What Exactly Happened to the 1990s group Hi-Five - one of the hottest groups of their era, known for their popular song "I Like The Way (Kissing Game)" and "She’s Playing Hard To Get"?

The quintet was one of the top-selling R&B groups in the ’90s, but tragedy struck the group - not once- but numerous times which led to their ultimate demise. Hi-Five almost appeared to be cursed.

Find out the sad stories behind their members:

Tony Thompson was known for his high pitched lead vocals on Hi-Five’s albums. In 2007, he was just on his way to reviving his career and had also formed his new record label and signed Hi-Five, but then tragedy struck. Tony was found dead outside of a Waco, TX apartment complex by two of the complex’s security guards. He was found next to the air conditioning units located behind the apartments and he died from huffing a toxic amount of freon from the air conditioning units. Tony’s autopsy report was released by a medical examiner at the Southwestern Institute of Forensic Sciences in Dallas, Tx. Tony reportedly had a history of inhaling freon. There were no other drugs or alcohol were found in his body, but that his bloodstream did contain trace amounts of methadone. The drug is often used to combat heroin addiction.

One of the band's original members, Roderick "Pooh" Clark, was in a near-fatal car accident in 1993. Clark was left paralyzed.

Toriano L. Easley was arrested for first-degree murder in Oklahoma City on Sept 1, 1990. The singer reportedly shot an acquaintance following a heated argument. Easley was kicked out of the group. Easely was only 17-years-old at the time of the shooting and served most of his 15-year prison sentence.

Russell Lamont Neal murdered his 24-year-old wife, model Catherine "Brasilia" Martinez" in 2014. Neal was living in Houston, TX at the time of the incident and Houston police said that he walked into the Houston sheriff’s department building and told them, "My wife is dead. I would like an attorney."

Neal told police Catherine’s body was at their home at the apartment complex. Police found Catherine Martinez dead on the living room floor with multiple stab wounds and blunt force trauma injuries to her head.

The only founding member to not have significant trauma or tragedy strike is Marcus Sanders. He along with Shannon Gill and Treston Irby have brought on two new members and are recording under the name Hi-Five.

It's so sad to see such a promising group struck by these tragedies...
